Hello. Today I want to tell you about a great self-help support group. It is called the Wellness Recovery Action Plan. In some cases it is better known as WRAP®.
If you would like to be honored as a participant and be accepted as the unique, special individual that you are, then you may enjoy this group. In WRAP® we are mindful that there is no limit to anyone’s recovery. By treating people with dignity, compassion, respect and unconditional high regard, we give folks a sense of hope and validate their experiences knowing that each person is the expert on themselves.
WRAP is based on self-empowerment and self-determination. Rooted in the belief in equality and that no one is any better or has higher value than anyone else, WRAP® is a mutual learning experience where people work together to increase understanding and promote wellness. It is based on common sense and is infinitely doable. WRAP® is not based on any philosophy or model but can incorporate any philosophy or model. For that reason, it is not just a program and for many, like me, it has become a way of life.
If you would like to gain a better understanding of what is going on with you and figure out what triggers you and what you can do about it, you may benefit from joining a WRAP® Group. If you want to identify what makes you tick and what makes you sick, WRAP® is for you.
If you want to devise a plan on what should happen to you and how your wishes can be carried out if or when you become overwhelmed to the point that you are incapacitated and cannot care for yourself, the WRAP® Crisis Plan is something that may prove to be invaluable. Because it is your plan and not anyone else’s, your supporters will know exactly what to do and how to support you through your time of crisis.
This is just a sneak preview of what you can expect and of some of the benefits of being part of a Wellness Recovery Action Plan Group. For more information on how to join one of the ongoing virtual WRAP® Groups facilitated by PEERS staff and contractors, call our office at 510-832-7337 and inquire. You certainly have nothing to lose and a life of mental health and wellness to gain. Peace!
