Get to know our programs before they start back up

By Alejandro Ramos

As the month of July winds down, so does our summer break here at PEERS. That means one thing for us: the return of our support groups! With that in mind, here’s a quick primer on our support groups so you can learn more about them and choose which ones you want to participate in.

PEERS provides quality Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP®) orientations, workshops, and training. WRAP® is an evidence-based practice used worldwide by people dealing with mental health or general health challenges. Since our inception in 2001, we have dedicated ourselves to offering WRAP® in a variety of formats and agendas. We adhere to its core set of Values and Ethics, which we use as our guidelines.

Special Messages

Special Messages is an interactive self-stigma-elimination campaign led by individuals who hear voices or have other extraordinary experiences and are dedicated to eliminating the stigma associated with mental health conditions. Through community education and interaction, Special Messages addresses the mental health concerns so many of us experience but don’t talk about.

Mark your calendars! Special Messages will resume our weekly support group virtually starting Friday August 6th (12 – 1:30pm PST).  More details to come. In the meantime check out our website and our blog.

Lift Every Voice and Speak

The Lift Every Voice and Speak (LEVS) speaker bureau is a community-empowered group that shares personal stories of mental health, recovery, and wellness journeys. LEVS members share their stories of hope through speaking engagements and panels within Alameda county. It’s a great support for community speaking. LEVS meets on the first and third Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 noon.

Contact Zakiya at to ask about stipend membership or to request a presentation at your organization.

Stay tuned to receive more information on our other programs as they come back. We hope to see you at one of our meetings!
