Healing from Our Pasts and Expectations
The Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives (PEARLS) educates older adults about what depression is (and is not) and helps them develop the skills they need for self-sufficiency and more active lives.

Who We Are
PEERS Healing from Our Pasts and Expectations Program (HOPE) provides a safe space for Asian American youth and Pacific Islander adults ages 18-24. We serve all AAPI adults residing in Alameda and Contra Costa County. We give them a chance to be in community, address their mental health concerns, gain tools and explore resources to support them on their wellness journey.
Our Why:
Mental Health Among Asian Americans
California has the largest population of Asian Americans compared to the rest of the United States. According to Alameda County Behavioral Health Department Services, Asian Americans consist of more than 30% of Alameda County’s population. However, less than 3% of mental health consumers identify as Asian American.
There are multiple barriers that prevent Asian Americans from receiving mental health support like mental health stigma, and lack of culturally relevant services, and barriers to expressing mental health concerns to family members.
Our Offerings

Community Events
We hold two community events a year that are free and open to all members of the community. Our upcoming events will take place in March and July 2026.

Wellness Groups
Our wellness groups meet throughout the Spring and Fall to discuss topics such as addressing stigma in the AAPI community, practicing self-love and self-acceptance, and healing from intergeneration trauma.
